Spanish Wine Holiday

Hey Guys,

For an excellent way to vary up your Spanish holiday and get off the beaten track of tourist attractions and the like, you may very well like to consider visiting a winery, or maybe two, or three… Taking a day trip to a winery here in Spain is an excellent way to escape the bustling city life, enjoy the beautiful Spanish nature, and of course learn about and discover some of Spain’s best kept secrets.

Living here in Barcelona and having previously worked for a winery in Cataluña, I can propose that you take a visit to the winery Ferré i Catasús. Ferré i Catasús is a small, family run winery located about one hour outside of Barcelona, in the Penedés region of Spain. Being so close to the city, it makes for an excellent day trip, as you can take a train directly to the winery (stop: La Granada) or arrive in car, plus still be able to return to your apartment in Barcelona later in the afternoon.

Obviously you will want to take a short tour of the winery and enjoy having lunch at their very elegant and tasty Sumoll restaurant. Specializing in typical food from the region, Sumoll is expert in preparing seafood dishes, pasta, dishes with meat and vegetables, essentially anything having to do with Spanish and Catalan cuisine.

As for the wine itself, that is certainly why I highly recommend taking a wine tour at Ferré i Catasús. Ferré i Catasús offers many different styles and varietals of wine, thus guaranteeing that you will find something that suites your tastes. You will find that they offer wines from the regions of Penedés, Cava, Priorat, Montsant, and Rioja. In addition, you will discover that their wines are comprised of varietals such as Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Garnache, Macabeo, Xarel.lo, Parellada, Chardonney, and Sauvignon Blanc.

As a side note, you definitely must try their famous Cava, which for those of you who don’t know, is the Spanish version of Champagne. Offering a clean, crisp, fruity, and fresh taste, with just the right amount of carbonation, you cannot go wrong by buying a few bottles to take back and enjoy in your Barcelona apartment. Be sure to visit their gift shop, as you can find everything at ridiculously cheap prices, plus you can find a few gems such as their absinth and their own olive oil, which offers a uniquely fresh and vibrant flavor.
